Chair Page September 2018

Happy September members,

What has everyone been up too? Been on your holiday’s, working on your Land Rover. Fancy sharing your experiences we would love to hear them. Send them on to Ruth for the journal.

I have been keeping myself busy, I went to the social at the Fish and Anchor that Kelly organised, and this was a great little site that I can see us returning too. I was an enjoyable weekend with a great turn out. Look forward to the next one!

Jim also organised the rally at Welland which was again a good turnout, another good display put on by the Dodge and Neaves Family with their Military vehicles. If you have never been to Welland it is a good weekend, fun for all the family, lots to see and do. I will be going again next year. It’s always the last weekend in July so add it to your calendar for 2019.

The open event at Wigmore took place. Thanks to Paul and everyone who made this happen.

The holiday rally at the beginning of August was cancelled due to lack of interest, I couldn’t commit as I was away in the Isle of Wight for Cowes week with work. This was one of my last events for a while working away so I am hoping to support club events a little more if I can.

By the time this comes out the Baskerville Challenge hosted by W&WLRC would have taken place but I will not be attending this year so anyone who does go, if they could do a short write up for the journal to share their experience of the weekend, whether you competed, camped or just spectated, It would be good to hear how the weekend went.

We are now coming into a busy month for the MROC as we have the Social Curry night on the 1st, Green Laning on the 2nd around the Warwickshire / Leicester area using Landranger 140. Details below.

The Major’s working weekend 8th and 9th, this is the same time as the firework championship event at the deer park so campers need to be in by the Friday. MROC will be sharing with the public on the Rover Field, the far end of and then the main Major’s Memorial Event on the 14th – 16th Sept we will be camping on the usual 23 acre field. Contact Jim Savage to pre book you pitch.

We also have the 2019 calendar meeting to discuss the maters of events for next year. If you are interested in what’s going on in the club or you have any ideas for socials, rally’s trials etc please come and share. We are always looking for new things to do. As we have the Major’s Memorial coming up very soon, we are still looking for volunteers to help out with marshals, signing on during Friday and site services.

Don’t forget that there has been a change with the date for 2018 Annual General Meeting (AGM), this will now take place on Tuesday 6th November at the Land Rover Sports and Social Club, Solihull. Please add the date to your diary, I hope you can attend, we would like to get people to come and support the club as this is when the committee members are elected / re-elected for the 2018/19 year. This is also the place to discuss matters of the club and have your say. I hope to see you there. If you are interested in taking on a role on the committee please fill out a nomination form.

Plans for the Christmas party are also falling into place as tickets have been flying out of Kelly’s hand.

I would like to add the 10th November on the calendar to go green laning around the Shropshire area, please keep an eye on the website and Facebook for more details on this. As I am happy to organise and plan these dates for green lane trips, I would appreciate if there was anyone out there that would be able to help lead a group if we have a large turnout as we are restricted to numbers within a group. I would provide the route if you have the maps. It’s good fun (esp if you get lost!! Haha)

Please make sure you keep up to speed with what is happening with the ALRC as the minutes from the recent EGM can be found on the ALRC website as well our own in the member’s area.

Things to be aware of coming up;

  • 2nd Sept – Green Laning. Warwickshire / Leicestershire area. Landranger 140.

We will be meeting at Tamworth Services, Junction 10 off the M42 at 09:00 on Sunday 2nd September.

If you can send me a text or email so I can get an idea of numbers I would appreciate it as I will be sticking to groups sizes of 6 maximum. I will need support with helping run groups if we have more than 6. I do not want to turn people away so please let me know if you are coming. Please bring food and drinks supplies with you as we may stop in the country for lunch and end the day in a country pub.

  • The 18th Majors Memorial Trial 2018, 14th – 16th September,

The club needs your help to run this event – if you’re interested in getting involved please contact me or Liz. See page ???? for details!

Unfortunately Classic Catering will not be supporting the event this year but we are looking at a new company.

  • MROC 2019 Calendar Meeting – 25th

This is being held at the CROWN in Wychbold, WR9 7PF from 7pm. If you have any ideas for a social, green laning, trials etc please come and share so we can organise what’s on the calendar next year. A few of us will be eating before the meeting, it’s cheap and cheerful Marstons 2for1 special. There is plenty of parking and this is located near J5, M5, 30 minutes from Solihull, Kidderminster, 40 minutes from Malvern and Birmingham and 20 minutes from Redditch/Studley. It would be great to see the support of the club by organising next year’s calendar.

  • 26th Sept – 2nd Oct, Land Rover Party Spain – Tickets are still available if you are interested, maybe limited spaces on the ferry though.

As well as taking the time to help set the sections up for the Major’s Memorial Trial this year, Hamish Grundy has also been organising a Time Trial event at Newman’s Quarry on the 4th November. Thank you Hamish for getting involved and organising this. I am hoping to be around and will do what I can to help.

Please make sure you are up to date with the ALRC, minutes can be found on our website, information can and will be distributed when necessary

Thank you all, keep up the good work all, happy Land Rovering.
